General job description
The Associate Pastor is one who is gifted and called to church ministry, loves people, and has a passion for the Word of God and for evangelism both personally and at the ministry level in a multi-generational church setting. His main responsibility is to assist the senior pastor with the church’s daily and weekly ministries. His tasks include, but are not limited to, providing small group oversight, visitation, supervising and working with church volunteers, assisting with all church services, activities, ceremonies, and whatever else the senior pastor might deem a priority. He should have a good knowledge of the community and put in the time to learn the names and hear the stories of those who are current members of the church as well as those who are added to the church family in the future. He must recognize and respect the culture of Clairemont Emmanuel. He should have a lifestyle of sharing the gospel boldly one-on-one and from the pulpit. The position should be filled by a married male candidate.

Here are the specific functions of the associate pastor:
WORSHIP· Preach when asked on Sunday morning or for special events. Have an “emergency sermon” ready in case of a last-minute need.· Be available to assist in worship (announcements, pastoral prayer, etc.) in any way he’s asked.
FELLOWSHIP
Be available to actively greet members and guests before and after every service and church gathering.
Lead or actively participate in a small group with his wife.
MINISTRY
Visit members who are in the hospital, in care or rehab facilities.
Assist the senior pastor in ministry to the Young Adult (college and career) age.
Assist the senior pastor with counseling, pre-marital counseling, as needed.
Conduct weddings and funerals as needed.
DISCIPLESHIP
Manage and provide oversight for the small group ministry of the church. This involves recruiting, teaching, training, supporting, and effectively supervising volunteers for adult small groups and other adult ministries in the church.
Lead a Grief Share group.
Develop support opportunities for couples through social events/activities and discipleship classes. Design and train volunteers on topics ranging from hospitality to effective evangelism.
Assist in teaching the membership class and three other classes the church offers (discipleship, ministry, and evangelism).
Provide and/or assist in corporate and individual instruction/mentoring in Bible knowledge.
EVANGELISM
Help the senior pastor in contacting all guests to the church and, if they are unbelievers, share the gospel with them. When possible, take another man from the congregation with him to do the visitation.
Assist children’s and youth ministry by way of outreach to parents.
Help conduct community evangelism outreaches.
Help in the organization and planning for Summerfest, FallFest, Seniors Thanksgiving Dinner, etc.
Personal qualifications
· He must be spiritually mature and physically and mentally fit.
· Has the personality, temperament, and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational church.
· Demonstrates evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Peter 5:1-4 in both home and work life.
· Practices a balanced Christian life (personal prayer and Bible Study, rest, worship, financial stewardship, etc.)
· Is doctrinally in line with Clairemont Emmanuel’s Statement of Faith, doctrinal positions, mission and core values.
· Shows evidence of a strong work ethic and personal integrity.
· Although we are hiring him, as time allows, his wife should participate in the ministries of the church in support of her husband.
Education and skills
· Has experience teaching/preaching in such a way that brings practical life application from the Bible.
· Has the knowledge and ability to guide an unbeliever to faith and then disciple them to ongoing spiritual maturity.
· Has a bachelor’s degree and a graduate (M.A.) or seminary degree (M.Div) or similar.
· Minimum of five years’ experience on a church pastoral staff.
Hours and Benefits
The Associate Pastor position will be full-time (40 hours a week minimum). Benefits offered will be consistent with what the current pastoral staff have in terms of insurance, paid time off, and holidays.
