DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCE BANK

CORE VALUES

My passion for working with youth begins with my belief in being a “minister of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19-21), to all people. “All people” for me at Clairemont Emmanuel is focused of students in our area. So often students are the focus of programs but not the focus of people. At L7 we are committed to bring students into the family of God through our loving environment, God centered conversations, gospel focused teaching and scripture informed counsel.

A key verse for our ministry is:

1 Peter 5:3 3 Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.

GOSPEL CENTRALITY

Everything we do is covered in the Gospel. This means that every lesson we give, every conversation our leaders have with our students is carrying the understanding that the Gospel is everything.

Our ministry is helping youth in their walk with Christ. However, we only have a few precious hours a week with each of the students on a regular basis. With this in mind, we are intentionally prepared to minister to the youth of Clairemont Emmanuel Church on many levels.

2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Titus 2:6-8, Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

Our purpose is not just to be event coordinators, fun weekly activities to keep kids out of trouble, or even just a way to serve.

We are disciples, making disciples that reproduce and love our Lord.

That is the purpose behind every event, every game, every activity, every worship experience, every Sunday school, and every small group. We want to live “life-on-life” with each one of the kids that walk through our doors and shine the light of Christ into their life.

THE STORY

We want all of our youth to know the framework of the story of the Bible. From beginning to end and even to today. We want them to be able to have a framework of the grand story God has been telling since time began. We want them to not look at the bible and see a series of disconnected stories, but a beautiful tapestry of the person of God and developing people after His heart. Also we deeply desire the youth in our community to began to desire to be part of the great missional story that is being told around the world this very day. Bringing the gospel to the ends of the earth will be something we set before each youth’s heart.

FELLOWSHIP

Youth in grades 6-12 enjoy a wide array of activities while being challenged to dig deep and get personal with Jesus. Led by an energetic and enthusiastic staff, youth experiences include mission trips to Mexico, winter and summer retreats in the great outdoors, relevant teaching topics and lasting friendships. There's a great space on Level 7 where it's comfortable to invite friends to play games, hang out, enjoy music and hear how Jesus wants to be a part of their life. Several discipleship groups are ongoing throughout the year.

PARENT PARTNERSHIP

We believe the old adage “it take a village” is an understatement in what it means to be a part of the development and discipleship of students. Parents by and large have the most influence, good and bad, upon their lives. This means that through helpful tools like our weekly email including discussion questions, and bi-weekly reminder texts, my door as youth pastor is open to our parents as a connection to youth culture, a helpful ear for frustration and an avenue for hope in your parent journey.

RESOURCE BANK

I’m also working on an online resource bank for our parents to go to when they have questions on parenting/current issues/youth culture, that they can go to when they are in need and can share with other parents as well! If you have an helpful material you would like to add to the growing resource bank, please let me know!

Each one of us has influence, and each one of our students has influence as well. We want to empower and train our students to see all their lives as opportunities for the great gospel of Jesus.  This year, maybe even more than ever, we need students, families and volunteers that seek to influence the dark world around them with the good news of Jesus Christ.

In Christ,
